Unity Productions Foundation
The Foundation provided grants to support the production of two films: Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet and Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain, created by Unity Productions Foundation, a non-profit educational foundation. These films promote justice, tolerance and intercultural understanding and facilitate our goal of building a better world through interfaith understanding. In addition, the Foundation has supported two other films under its social justice initiative.
As stated by Alex Kronemer, the Executive Producer of the films and Co-founder of Unity Productions Foundation:
“Recognizing that an obstacle to peace in today’s world is due to inter-religious conflict, the El-Hibri Charitable Foundation seeks to foster peace through interfaith dialogue leading to mutual understanding and reconciliation. The grants from the El-Hibri Charitable Foundation has facilitated UPF in fulfilling its mission of creating high-quality films for worldwide broadcast and long-term education campaigns that increase understanding and dialogue among the world’s spiritual and cultural traditions. With the El-Hibri Charitable Foundation’s support, UPF has been able to reach millions through airing of two educational films addressing interfaith understanding on PBS.”
Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet
This documentary film focuses on the life and legacy of Muhammad, who brought peace to the warring pagan tribes of Arabia and established the religion of Islam. The film includes commentary providing historical context and critical perspective from some of the world’s greatest Islamic scholars.
Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain
This film examines how, more than 1000 years ago, Muslims, Christians and Jews in Southern Spain lived together and thrived, before the rise of religious extremism dissipated this fragile union. The history of Islamic Spain demonstrates that when religious diversity is accommodated within a social and political system, problems and tensions may still exist, but society is able to successfully manage them, generally to the benefit of all. But when a power system or religious movement rejects diversity and insists on a single cultural and religiously-centered point of view, society, as a whole or in part, is likely to come to grief.
